We all know that COVID-19 has placed a strain on our own lives and those who surround us. This past year has been anything but what I have expected, yet God has been faithful throughout. He has been faithful in places where I doubted, such as thinking: “Are we even going to attend launch?” God continuously shows me that He is in control. Launch was an experience of excitement, struggle, and respect. Excited because I was able to see and reconnect with my team and squad. Struggle because there were new rules set in place due to COVID, and respecting those rules for everyone’s safety.

Launch was held at Adventures in Missions (AIM) main campus in Gainesville, GA. As soon as my mom and dad pulled up to campus, I said my goodbyes and grabbed my things. From that first step onto campus, safety measures were taken for every racer. I finally made it! I can hug and hang out with my squad that I have not seen since October… well not exactly. Due to COVID, we were all split up into our teams and placed in squares where we were staying. Squares? Yes, six feet safety squares. Oh, let’s not forget the fact we are staying in one of AIM’s administrative offices. This is what the World Race looks like during a pandemic, and I love it (even if it is difficult).

COVID tests were necessary to arrive at launch and we also got a second test while we were there in order to leave for Guatemala (the tests never get any easier). Launch was a time to receive an idea of what the field would look like, where we would be, and how to reach into communities. It was truly an unforgettable few days, ones that I will cherish forever. Check out the images below from launch!

Chilly morning in Gainesville waiting to get tested for COVID before launching to Guatemala.

Here are a couple of girls from my squad (I-Squad) just spending quality time together.

Six-foot chest bump, that’s it.

Not only was one of the administrative offices our sleeping space, but it was also our place of worship and teachings. Check out those duct taped squares!

Right before leaving Gainesville for the airport in Atlanta, we participated in communion. One of the sweetest memories to kickstart our year, especially calling in some of our people.

Please join me in prayer over this next chapter, not only in my life but in my fellow squad-mates. Pray over the ministries we will be working alongside with. Thank you for checking in with me during this journey and your prayers are always deeply appreciated!

with all my love,

PJ
